MIAMI, FL January 31, 2011 - On February 9th, SERAPHIC FIRE will debut a program hundreds of years in the making. OUT OF BABYLON is a musical documentary featuring the Jewish chants and folk songs that continue to evade modern day sheet music. This tale of one Jewish family’s personal diaspora from Babylon (present day Iraq) to Miami Beach is told through the music of an entirely aural tradition. OUT OF BABYLON will debut Wednesday, February 9, 2011 7:30PM at St. Christopher’s by-the-Sea and continue on Thursday, February 10, 2011 7:30PM at Temple Judea in Coral Gables, Saturday, February 12, 2011 8:00PM at Temple Emanu-El Synagogue on Miami Beach and Sunday, February 13, 2011 4:00PM at All Saints Episcopal Church in Fort Lauderdale.
Tickets are $35 and can be purchased now at www.SeraphicFire.org or by phone at 888-544-FIRE. Continuing its effort to reach new audiences, Seraphic Fire will once again make FREE tickets available to audience members who are 30 or under (but over 8, please) ten minutes before each performance as long as tickets remain. A limited number of under 30 tickets are available in advance online at www.SeraphicFire.org and using code U30 (ID will need to be presented to pick up tickets on concert day).
Now a gem among South Florida’s cultural institutions, SERAPHIC FIRE has garnered high praise since its inaugural season nine years ago. The South Florida Sun-Sentinel describes SERAPHIC FIRE as “the smartest, most creative, consistently excellent classical music ticket in South Florida.” SERAPHIC FIRE has been lauded by The Miami Herald as, “one of the best choirs anywhere,” and has gained a reputation for dynamic, cutting edge performances.
Cantor George Mordecai and traditional Indian and Iraqi instrumentalists accompany SERAPHIC FIRE on this musical journey from Babylon through India and Singapore to Australia and finally Miami Beach. This tale of one family’s perseverance and bravery is based on true events and echoes the struggles endured by countless others.
