SERAPHIC FIRE LEAPFROGS YO-YO MA AND THE LONDON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA TO CLAIM NUMBER 5 SLOT ON CLASSICAL BESTSELLER CHART
MIAMI, FL – Proving that Miami is home to cutting-edge Classical music, the newest recording from Seraphic Fire, Miami’s professional chamber choir, rocketed to Number 5on the iTunes Classical Bestseller charts less than 24 hours after the album’s release. The recording, Brahms: Ein Deutsches Requiem, surpassed albums by Yo-Yo Ma and the London Symphony Orchestra to establish its hold on the bestseller list.
| “To debut in the Top 10 on the first day of a release is nearly unheard of,” said Seraphic Fire founding artistic director Patrick Dupré Quigley. “We are excited to join the ranks of such estimable musicians.”
Brahms: Ein Deutsches Requiem is the second Seraphic Fire recording to break into the Top 10 Bestselling Classical Albums, preceded by the ensemble’s recording of Monteverdi: Vespers of the Blessed Virgin in August of 2010 which shot to the Number One position. This newsworthy achievement for a self-released recording made national headlines in the music world. Since then, the ensemble’s recording, A Seraphic Fire Christmas, also performed well on the charts, reaching Number 18 in the Classical category. Brahms: Ein Deutsches Requiem is the first album to feature Seraphic Fire augmented by collegiate musicians from the Professional Choral Institute (PCI), a public-private partnership between Seraphic Fire and the University of South Florida. PCI is designed to recognize and foster the next generation of professional ensemble singers. Tutored by Seraphic Fire chorus master and USF faculty member James K. Bass and coached by Seraphic Fire singers, the aspiring professionals of PCI traveled from across the country to USF’s Tampa campus for two weeks of intensive professional training workshops, rehearsals and concerts. The PCI students combine with the forces of Seraphic Fire soprano Teresa Wakim, baritone Paul Max Tipton and pianists Scott Allen Jarret and Justin Blackwellunder the direction of Seraphic Fire founder and artistic director Patrick Dupré Quigley to realize a revelatory and fresh rendering of Brahms’ masterwork. The recording is produced by GRAMMY-winning producer Peter Rutenberg.
