MIAMI, FL February 1, 2011 – This morning, North Miami Mayor Andre Pierre presented Miami Choral Academy’s Program Director, Shawn Crouch, with a key to the city in recognition of the tremendous success of the Miami Choral Academy.
Present at the ceremony were the children of Natural Bridge Elementary School who are participants in the Miami Choral Academy. The children were there to represent the Academy’s 150 participants and to give a beautiful sampling of their new found musical talents.
“We thank you, Shawn Crouch, for giving the true gift of music” said Mayor Pierre. Shawn Crouch was honored by the gift and commented that “The Miami Choral Academy is a team effort”.
The Miami Choral Academy
In a day and age where arts programs are usually the first to be cut, the Miami Choral Academy after-school program is defying the odds by providing musical instruction of the highest quality to children of underserved communities. Charging no tuition and asking nothing more than the commitment of its pupils, the Miami Choral Academy has created choirs at its four schools that display an amazing array of talent. Through it’s choral and music integration curriculum, which focuses on concepts shared between music, math, language arts, and history, the Miami Choral Academy is creating academic and social change all while building confidence in its participants.
