MIAMI, FL MAY 4, 2010 - The sublime singers of Seraphic Fire celebrate the 400th Anniversary of the Baroque’s revolutionary masterpiece, May 13 through 16th with performances of Monteverdi’s Vespro della Beata Vergine, 1610, known today as the Vespers of 1610. The Western Michigan University Chorale travels from Kalamazoo Michigan to join Seraphic Fire for this fabulous collaboration concert as a special guest, in honor of the release of their jointly recorded CD of the Vespers.
In the time of Shakespeare’s The Tempest and Cervantes’s Don Quixote, Monteverdi elegantly and seamlessly combined the prevalent compositional styles of his day into one of the most intricate and beautiful tapestries of celestial sound. A collection of sacred pieces demonstrating Monteverdi’s mastery of composition and religion, the Vespers of 1610 has become the evolutionary link between the Renaissance and Baroque periods.
“This piece is ideally suited to Seraphic Fire,” notes Artistic Director Patrick Dupré Quigley. “The Vespers is truly a cutting-edge work of its time and demands a choir of incomparable skill. Often splitting the choir with just one voice per part, this performance will be a virtuosic tour-de-force.”
Immediately following the final performance, Seraphic Fire embarks on its maiden international tour. Seraphic Fire will take Monteverdi’s Vespers to Mexico City where they will perform in Mexico’s premier performance venues including the Catedral Metropolitana de Mexico (The Metropolitan Cathedral, the largest in the western hemisphere), and the Palacio de Bellas Artes, the Mexican equivalent of Carnegie Hall. Come celebrate with Seraphic Fire and help send the ensemble off in style!
