MIAMI – Seraphic Fire, Florida’s GRAMMY® nominated vocal ensemble, announces its 2017-2018 Season anchored by a multi-program exploration of human resilience through the music of three evocative passions led by Founder and Artistic Director Patrick Dupré Quigley. Guest conductor appearances include Lorelei Ensemble Founder and Artistic Director Beth Willer in November 2017 and Boston’s Back Bay Chorale Music Director Scott Allen Jarrett in March 2018.

“After celebrating 15 years, this next season provides our audience with an eclectic musical journey through masterworks of cultural significance like Brahms’ timeless Liebeslieder Waltzes, as well as through high-quality under-performed music like David Lang’s The Little Match Girl Passion,” said Artistic Director Patrick Dupré Quigley. “Our 16th Season continues to put South Florida at the center of artistic innovation with the country’s finest vocal artists performing history’s awe-inspiring repertoire.”

Seraphic Fire presents three of its concerts in a special series, Parables of Passion, which delves into stories of anguish and hope that showcase human resilience. These performances include David Lang’s powerfully minimalistic The Little Match Girl Passion in January 2018, J. S. Bach’s virtuosic St. Matthew Passion in February 2018, and Arvo Pärt’s austerely contemplative Passio in April 2018.

In October 2017, Seraphic Fire and Patrick Dupré Quigley open the season with Monteverdi’s Selva Morale et Spirituale, a 17th Century collection of sacred Italian madrigals that possess intimate sonorities with the dramatics of later operatic works. Following this Italian Baroque showcase, Lorelei Ensemble Artistic Director Beth Willer leads Seraphic Fire in November 2017 through a survey of American hymnody that brings together sacred tradition and intrepid musical modernism.

For 15 years, Seraphic Fire has awed listeners with its musically absorbing holiday tradition, A Seraphic Fire Christmas. This annual GRAMMY® nominated event led by Associate Conductor James K. Bass features Jesus Christ the Apple Tree, in which the artists surround the audience to perform a mesmerizing cannon, as well as unique arrangements of popular traditional carols.

“We take great pride in connecting with so many communities of different spiritual beliefs during the holiday season,” says James K. Bass. “Singing to sold-out houses every December has been equally transformative to audience members and artists, and we look toward this next program with great anticipation as we get the chance to connect with our friends on a very personal level.”

Featured in Seraphic Fire’s GRAMMY® nominated 2012 disc Brahms: Ein Deutsches Requiem, pianist and conductor Scott Allen Jarrett returns to South Florida in March 2018 to lead the German master’s whimsical Liebeslieder Waltzes from the keyboard.

Capping off the season is a presentation that shines the spotlight on the great Elizabethan bard William Shakespeare in May 2018. James K. Bass and Seraphic Fire perform music that employs Shakespeare’s poetry as its source for inspiration.
