SERAPHIC FIRE OPENS 10TH SEASON WITH REQUIEM FOR RENAISSANCE ROCKSTAR
MIAMI, FL – Seraphic Fire, Miami’s enterprising professional chamber choir, opens its 10th Anniversary Season with a tribute to one of the foremost forces of the musical Renaissance, Tomás Luis de Victoria. Victoria, musician to popes and empresses, wrote ravishingly sensual sacred music for the human voice, capturing the glory of the Spanish Renaissance and catapulting the musical world into the Baroque period. A Requiem for the Renaissance runs for ONLY FIVE NIGHTS, October 19 – 23, 2011 at venues in Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased at SeraphicFire.org or by phone at (888) 544-FIRE. Continuing its mission to reach younger audiences, a limited amount of tickets will be FREE for those thirty and under.
The year is 1611. Shakespeare premieres The Tempest at Whitehall, the King James Bible is on the printing press, and Tomás Luis de Victoria is on his deathbed. Widely known throughout Europe as the heir to the musical throne of Renaissance senior statesman Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, Victoria spent the last years of his life in the service of the Dowager Empress Maria. Seraphic Fire performs a 75 minute program of breathtakinga cappella motets illustrating the genius of Victoria, as well as those composers who came before and after.
Ten years in the making, A Requiem for the Renaissance at once marks the dawn of a new decade for the group and concludes a summer of striking success. Seraphic Fire’s latest album, Brahms: Ein Deutsches Requiem, was released in August to a flurry of excitement. On the day of its release the album reached the top five on the iTunes Classical chart and days later debuted at No. 7 on Billboard‘s Traditional Classical chart.
“Ten years…it is almost hard to believe!” says Seraphic Fire founder Patrick Dupré Quigley. “We’ve performed the music of Victoria on every season since our founding – he has become a kind of house composer for us. I can’t think of a more fitting opening to celebrate a new Seraphic Fire decade than by performing his music.”
