Reincarnations: A Century of American Choral Music

MIAMI, FL – Featuring seven world premiere recordings, two-time GRAMMY®-nominated Seraphic Fire’s latest album, Reincarnations: A Century of American Choral Music, is at the vanguard of new music in America. This recording encapsulates an uninterrupted compositional tradition, from the 19th century anonymous hymn writer to brilliant, contemporary composers. Distributed by Naxos of America, it is digitally and physically available September 9th.

“This collection captures a venerable tradition that has given way to a vibrant national, American style in choral music,” says Seraphic Fire Founder and Artistic Director Patrick Dupré Quigley. “Through this disc, we aim to honor the legacy of the composers who came before us, those who are making a noticeable impact on the art form’s present, and those who will be the future.”

Seraphic Fire, an ensemble of top professional artists from around the country, presents a curated collection featuring two quintessential compositions: Reincarnations by Samuel Barber and Mid-Winter Songs by Morten Lauridsen. These archetypes illustrate the American choral style by infusing simple, folk-like melodies with complex harmony and texture. New works by Jake Runestad, Dan Forrest, Nico Muhly, Frank Ticheli and Shawn Crouch draw influence from these pieces and shed light on what is to come for American choral music.
