MIAMI – Professional vocal ensemble Seraphic Fire will dedicate its 15th Anniversary Celebration concert on Jan. 22, 2017 to the late philanthropist and arts activist Ruth Sackner. The concert, which includes Herbert Howells’ “Requiem,” will take place at All Souls Episcopal Church in Miami Beach, Fla.
“Ruth has been a part of the Seraphic Fire journey from the very beginning,” says Executive Director Rhett M. Del Campo. “Her legacy and generosity are integral to Seraphic Fire’s fabric and we are honored to remember her during such an important milestone.”
Sackner and her husband Marvin joined Seraphic Fire for its inaugural season and have since remained committed to the ensemble’s advancement through myriad initiatives including a bequest in their estate as members of Seraphic Fire’s Legacy Society, hosting out-of-state Seraphic Fire artists in their home, and holding crucial fundraising events.
Upon Ruth’s death in Oct. 2016, Marvin established the Ruth Sackner Memorial Fund as a way to give their relatives and friends an avenue to extend her philanthropic involvement with Seraphic Fire. The fund is housed with the Coral Gables Community Foundation, a collection of charitable funds administered by community leaders looking to provide a philanthropic conduit between individuals and organizations that benefit the community at large.
“Remembering a friendship as invaluable as Ruth’s is inspiring, especially as we perform selections from those early concerts she attended,” says Founder and Artistic Director Patrick Dupré Quigley. “We look forward to showcasing the art made possible by the support of friends like Ruth.”
