Named recipient of grant from John S. and James L. Knight Foundation as part of the Knight Arts Challenge

MIAMI, FL – Seraphic Fire has been named a recipient of the 2013 Knight Arts Challenge. The $180,000 award will make the GRAMMY®- nominated chamber group the ensemble-in-residence at the South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center through regular performances of choral-orchestral masterworks. This landmark development will make the ensemble a viable cultural option for communities far from Miami’s cultural center and deepens Seraphic Fire’s already strong relationship with the Center – Seraphic Fire’s 2011 Christmas performance was the first presentation to sell out at the center, and sold out again in 2012.

The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation’s Knight Arts Challenge funds ideas that help bring South Florida together through the arts.

“Seraphic Fire is thrilled to be receiving this award,” remarked Seraphic Fire Managing Director, Joey Quigley. “Cutler Bay and the surrounding communities have embraced us through our Christmas concerts, and now we’ll be able to maintain a season-long presence at the beautiful center.”

“The South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center is delighted to expand our existing relationship with Seraphic Fire and co-present large scale productions to now include the Firebird Chamber Orchestra. Seraphic Fire’s holiday concerts have traditionally been among the Center’s best attended performances. We are confident that the south Miami Dade community will be enthusiastic about the additional programming and will support the great artistic work that Seraphic Fire will perform in our facility.” Eric Fliss, General Manager of the South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center.

“Everywhere you go in South Florida, we want you to have an encounter with art. With these concerts, Seraphic Fire will help ensure that South Dade residents have enriching performances in their backyard,” said Dennis Scholl, VP/Arts at Knight Foundation.

Seraphic Fire is widely regarded as one of the most important professional vocal ensembles in the United States. An American All-Star ensemble made up of the best ensemble singers from across the United States, Seraphic Fire saw two recordings—Brahms: Ein Deutsches Requiem and A Seraphic Fire Christmas—receive nominations in the Best Choral and Best Small Ensemble categories, respectively, of the 2012 GRAMMY® Awards. The ensemble’s repertoire and recording catalogue spans over one thousand years of sacred music, from Gregorian chant to newly-commissioned works.
