Ensemble’s performance of Monteverdi’s “Vespers of 1610” makes waves in D.C. debut

MIAMI, FL – Seraphic Fire has sold-out the 500 seat Crypt Chapel of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception three weeks before its concert date. Because of this overwhelming demand, the venue of Seraphic Fire’s performance of Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610 has been changed to the Basilica’s 2,500 seat Upper Church, the largest Catholic church in North America. The performance will be held at 7:00pm on February 8 at 400 Michigan Avenue, Northeast, Washington, D.C., 20017. Tickets, available free of charge, are available at or (305) 285 9060. Those who reserve tickets, including reservations made before the venue change, will receive preferred seating.

The Choir of the Basilica will join the twice GRAMMY®-nominated Seraphic Fire for the performance of Monteverdi’s masterpiece. Seraphic Fire is well acquainted with theVespers. In August 2010, the ensemble’s self-released album of Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610 quickly soared to #1 on the iTunes classical chart, catching the eye of NPR’s All Things Considered, which declared Seraphic Fire to be “vocally brilliant.” This recording followed an international tour to Mexico City where Seraphic Fire performed the work in Mexico’s premier performance venues including the Catedral Metropolitana de Mexico and the Palacio de Bellas Artes.

Seraphic Fire is widely regarded as one of the most important professional vocal ensembles in the United States. An American All-Star ensemble made up of the best ensemble singers from across the United States, Seraphic Fire saw two recordings—Brahms: Ein Deutsches Requiem and A Seraphic Fire Christmas—receive nominations in the Best Choral and Best Small Ensemble categories, respectively, of the 2012 GRAMMY® Awards. The ensemble’s repertoire and recording catalogue spans over one thousand years of sacred music, from Gregorian chant to newly-commissioned works.
