THE YOUNG VOCALISTS OF SERAPHIC FIRE’S MIAMI CHORAL ACADEMY LIFT THEIR VOICES FOR A WINTERTIME CELEBRATION
MIAMI, FL – The 200 students of the Miami Choral Academy (MCA) will present theirWinter Choir Festival at the Church of Saint Martha on Friday, December 7, 2012 at 7:30pm. This celebration of young voices will showcase the inspiring musical talents of all five Miami Choral Academy ensembles: Citrus Grove Elementary, Lorah Park Elementary, Morningside K-8 Academy, Natural Bridge Elementary School, and the Miami Choral Academy Honor Chamber Choir. The Miami Choral Academy Winter Choir Festival is free and open to the public.
Now in its third season, the Miami Choral Academy — an initiative of South Florida’s GRAMMY-nominated chamber choir, Seraphic Fire — provides children living in economically disadvantaged communities with a tuition-free afterschool music education and choral program. In partnership with Miami-County Public Schools, MCA operates out of four elementary schools.
By employing a research-based curriculum that focuses on making connections between music and other subjects, the students of MCA have shown a marked improvement in math, language arts and reading comprehension. This innovative program encourages the active involvement of the students’ parents and has shown to boost the confidence levels of its young participants.
